Fundamentals of meditation

Fundamentals of meditation-Anant Sri

  • When you come in a Buddha field like ANANT with awareness, you can feel its effect from three days in advance and up to three days thereafter. It is good that many friends are able to tune in to this energy that is why they are able to feel things in advance. You may even come to know that this is going to happen today. It has happened here many times when friends say that this is what I was thinking, or I got a solution to my query without asking, or I thought you would take up this meditation. If you are sensitive and aware you simply get tuned to Buddha field and mystery of Synchro-destiny starts happening. Such things are common in a Buddha field. This is subtle awareness.

  • In the silence and quietude of the Buddha field, disturbance becomes immaterial. As soon as you reach the silent centre within, your reactions have no value, they drop. You don’t feel like talking but you can talk and this is a balance. Silence doesn’t mean you will not talk at all, it means you don’t feel like talking unnecessarily. Generally you are quiet within but whenever there is need you speak. Silence is not stopping you from going out in any form, whether words or actions, it is simply turning in, towards your beingness.

  • When I say experiences are immaterial, it doesn’t mean that we can’t talk about them or that we don’t live through them. Mystics say that life is immaterial but don’t we live? The only thing is that personal attachment and individual identification should not be there. When the personal attachment and individual identification is not there, we are free. Otherwise also whatever is happening at present, whether I am talking, you are listening, it is also an experience. Experiences are like a dream but that can be lived through, without any attachment and identification and then it is freedom.

  • At times you may even experience something that you may have never seen before. Unseen and unheard of is also possible as a meditative experience.

  • When it is said go on the experiencer not the experience, people don’t know where to go. But in reality you will be there, where the experience is, you cannot be anywhere else. And as you get connected to the source, you see both things; the experience as well as the experiencer. But again deep within everything is insignificant except that the essence remains that you are there, and that’s all.

  • Don’t look for same experience to happen another time. Mystical experiences are called satori, and you experience so that you know that this is also a possibility, but don’t hope that it gets repeated. Remain open to new experiences that will come in various ways, and then new things will happen. A beautiful mystical experience which gives you a glimpse of your boundlessness may create a subtle kind of greed within you, as you may start desiring it more and more. Then this desiring can create enormous obstacle within. Here you have to understand and accept the beautiful aspect of life that any moment or any experience in that moment never gets repeated, because life is always new and afresh, so always live in the eternal moment of now and drop your desiring mind and all false hopes.

  • Sometimes people have weird ideas about meditators that they should not do this and not do that. Don’t create such impressions that meditators cannot quarrel. Meditators are normal beings and they can fight also if required. Sometimes quarrelling are means to take you into peace. We interpret them as fighting where as they are merely outbursts. There are outbursts in nature also, like earthquake or storm or cloud burst. Not that everything is peaceful in nature, same way, even the human life expresses in many ways; that is why there are tremors at times. But in spite of all those changes and outbursts, you remain centered within, is what a meditative life is all about.

  • During meditation, don’t try to hesitate in doing what is coming from within. I don’t give any discipline and I don’t control either, all the control and discipline happens existentially. When you are in a group of mature meditators who understand and don’t get disturbed, you can leave your inhibitions behind. No one is affected by what the other is doing. They will go within themselves and you will go within yourself. Whatever is suppressed has to come out, and then peace will descend. Don’t take interest in what is happening but allow it to happen. Let it come if it comes and don’t ask as to how long will it take to exhaust it. It may leave next moment itself.

  • Don’t keep the concept of catharsis also, otherwise the mind will wait for it and it may have already left, so just leave it for now. But if you think of the next time, you are giving a suggestion now itself that next time you will do this or do that. But something different can happen next time, so don’t hold on to it. Don’t expect, don’t plan for the future.

  • The energy field here is so created that nothing is required to be done, it is sufficient in itself. Let things happen naturally. We are body mind and it works on suggestion, so have no thoughts, whatever happens next time we shall see at that time, no need to bother now. Let the time unfold, what happens then, who knows. Don’t anticipate. Let things unfold. Unfoldment is healing and entanglement is disease.

  • Meditators are often found confused about thoughtlessness and timelessness. Thoughts come like clouds, sometimes they are there, sometimes they flow, sometimes they disappear but they are there. Don’t struggle with thoughts. When you say that you are thoughtless, it is simply another thought.

  • And what a funny situation when you say that for a particular period of time, you experienced timelessness. If there is an experience, thoughts and time will be there.

  • If you are aware, you just step back and you will see the thoughts, see their flow, see the gap in between them and also see how they disburse. Thoughts are never lost. Thoughtlessness is moving away from them and dis-identification with them. Therefore when you enter thoughtlessness, then also thoughts are there.

  • In the same way people say that they experience the timeless zone. When you are in timelessness then also time is there. When you are connected to the source you are in timelessness, but time is still there. As long as you are living in your body-mind, thoughts and time will remain. Therefore thoughts and time exist but you can enter into your beingness, where there is no time or thought. Time and thought arises only when beingness or consciousness gets identified with the body-mind.

  • Fundamental meditation is returning to your source, where there is no experience. If you feel sleepy let it come, and if you are aware let it come. You can’t be aware all the time. We are a combination of both, waves of awareness and unawareness happen.

  • When people read modern literature, they say that they want to be witness or wish to enter into witnessing, but they don’t know that we dwell in witnessing and non-witnessing. When the need for witnessing arises, when there is something to witness, witnessing happens; otherwise when there is nothing to witness, consciousness remains in a state of non-witnessing. Since we are not familiar with non-witnessing we translate it into tandra, but in reality it is the unmanifested state, it is merging with the source. And when the need for awareness is there, you become aware.

  • When you connect to your source, your being, you quickly drift into the feeling of oneness. You will feel your limits are melting and you enter a cosmic flow and that is the fundamental meditation.
