Morality and Spirituality

Spirituality has nothing to do with morality. Morality is the journey of the ego. While in spirituality there is no ego, in morality there are commandments, do’s and don’ts clearly specified; while in spirituality no such guidelines are given from outside.

In morality there are fixed ideas, this should be there, this needs to be avoided; and it thus limits and binds and therefore it gives rise to division, comparison, superiority and inferiority, conflicts and war. Anything falling outside their boundary attracts criticism, discrimination and ultimately annihilation.

So, all morality is for a limited mind and therefore the journey of the ego. For spirituality a person is not bound by any rules and regulations from outside. There is no need.

One moves with awareness, sensitivity and understanding, with compassion for all and life holds the top priority.

Both spirituality and morality may be together, and they may not be together also as morality is no pre-requisite for spirituality.

A spiritual person acts with awareness and understanding as no pre-determined commandments can be there. In some instances, morality may be there and then spirituality may enter gradually. In that case both may be together.

Now about values and principles, they are one’s own. They come from within him. And it is one’s decision to be in them. They cannot be forced on anyone. Whereas morality comes from society and its rules and regulations are made mandatory.

Now the time has come when there is need to break free from such conditionings of society and move with understanding and sensitivity.

Sometimes disciplines are given by Buddhas for streamlining and cooperation, to enable man to take suitable decisions in his journey of transformation. And in this case no commandments are given, and it is also ensured that there is compassion and life is given full respect.
