Levitation

Levitation- Anant Sri

When you feel your weightlessness, it is actually, a focus on your consciousness. As consciousness has no weight and when you focus on your consciousness you feel weightless. In love also you feel light, and you want to fly like a bird. Many a times lovers are depicted in a pose to fly like the highly acclaimed pose in the movie Titanic where the lovers stand at the extreme edge of the ship with their hands spread out in the air as wings.

Levitation is possible, but it has no significance in meditation and that is not supposed to be aimed at. The main thing is that your consciousness is uplifted not your body for weightlessness is the characteristic of your consciousness, not of the body.

When the gravitational pull holds you down a force is required for lifting you above the ground. Energy is required for flying. The increase in your energy level also makes you feel light and gives you a feeling of weightlessness.

There are several instances narrated by people who have had near death experience that at the time of death they experienced intense rise in sexual energy. This looks strange that why should a dying person experience such a thing. But when the energy level increases the first experience is of Kaam energy and as it raises to higher levels it transforms into its various possibilities.

Many of you may not be aware that even for death to take place a certain amount of energy level is required. It takes longer for people to die who have been sick for long periods with their energies depleted as it does not meet the minimum requirement of energy for death to take place. Whereas for a young person death can be instant, it is easy to die at high energy level.

It is possible for a person to die with such ease that he just lies back and leaves his body. This has happened to many saints that they have left their body by just lying back quietly.

As discussed earlier your mind plays a significant role in feeling the weight. Thoughts make you heavy. When you are free from your mind then the body consciousness also becomes minimum giving you a feeling of lightness.

But levitation becomes a gimmick for certain gurus to publicize their show. Levitation is not supposed to be the desired goal and if one is aiming at that, then it is missing out on the real essence.

Some people take too much insistence on postures. Any posture requiring minimum energy with stability of the body is suitable for you. However, it is seen that in sukh-asan, least energy is wasted in keeping your body stable, but not that it is a must. You can discover a suitable posture for yourself where body consciousness is minimized. Lord Mahaveer realized in a posture as if he was milking a cow. His followers made an asan out of it. But that is not required, not that everybody has to go for it.

The aim should be that the body is stable, and the mind is quiet, or it is flowing without disturbing and thus transcending the body-mind instrument you glide into your consciousness and that is your being, your blissful state. Once that being is established you can be playful with the body and mind using them as required. And then you are one, everything interconnected. All realized Masters work this way. On the surface they may appear contradictory, but they stand together. They are all one.
