Eyes are flowing energy

Eyes are flowing energy

( A Technique from Vigyan Bhairav Tantra)

– Anant Sri

In today’s sutra from Vigyan Bhairav Tantra, Shiva says that you shut your eyes and see within.

Eyes are such subtle instruments that connect you to the world outside and to your consciousness within. Eyes are constantly moving, and always in a flow.

When you are seeing outside your eyes keep on moving from one thing to the other. Eyes are flowing energy and therefore constantly seeing something or the other and this continuous activity tires us. Today we have advanced techniques for seeing like Televisions and Smart phones etc. And researches have revealed that these are becoming the new age obsessions; they are taking the form of psychic abnormality and often require treatment like the other psychological disorders. No wonder we find closing eyes very relaxing.

Those people whose eyes keep moving rapidly are known to be unstable and mostly they are not trusted. They are not rooted. If someone has eyes that can focus for a while, they are said to be more trustworthy, people find them more dependable.

Eyes speak the truth. Howsoever good you may be in pretending otherwise, but in no time, eyes will reveal all. You do not have any control over eye movement. They reflect all that is going on within you. Normally anybody seeing you will come to know something about you in the way your eyes move, anyone can recognize love, hate, anger, sorrow etc within you, but those who have this faculty can come to know everything about you looking into your eyes. There have been several instances where this faculty has been identified and put to use. This is just to say that several possibilities lie within you unexplored and when you see within you may be able to unveil them.

Even when we sleep our eyes keep moving behind the closed eyelids known as REM or Rapid Eye Movement. When we see a dream, the eyes keep moving and with certain advanced techniques, these eye movements can be recorded and studying of the REM can indicate to the type of dream one has seen. Different patterns of REM are found for different types of dreams like dreams of peace, joy, happiness, fear, anger, anxiety, excitement, thrill etc. All reveal different formations of eye movement. Since this again is flow of energy, a person who has seen many dreams during the sleep gets up depleted of energy. Though sleep is refreshing but as he had been dreaming for a good length of time, all his energy gets exhausted.  That is why they say that it is the dreamless sleep, a sound sleep that rejuvenates a person, increasing the energy level that relaxes and fills one with vigor, it is known as सुषुप्ति in spirituality.

The technique though simple is not that simple in its execution.

The first thing that is to close your eyes itself is not easy for people. People are so used to seeing outside that not to see the world outside creates discomfort and they immediately open their eyes and find it difficult to continue closing the eyes. Those who do close also see the outside world only through closed eyes. They keep roaming into the outside world; this is not that has been advised in this technique. Here closing your eyes means you are to shut down seeing the outside world altogether.

When you shut your eyes from the outside world then a whole new world opens for you, within you and you realize that the world you had so far known was just a fraction of the vast unlimited world within. The energy that was flowing outside begins to flow within.

It is those Rishies, who dived deep into their within, and to them was revealed the subtle energy system that we so commonly talk about today.

Then seeing within, you can see your thoughts, their flow, their entire chain, their interconnection, all can be known once you go within. Each and every seeing within, can lead to many new things opening up for you. The world within is vast and unending.

Now that we have seen the world outside, we have also seen the world within, and all along we have been the seer. Whatever you see is not you.  You see your body and its changes outside and within and you are not that. You see your mind and its changing thought patterns and it is not you. You see the energy changes around you and within you, and you are not that. Likewise, whatever you see, you know you are not that but all along the seeing, the seer is there and that is you. And once you are established in the seer, you also come to realize that the seer and the seen are one. This transformation takes place as you go on disassociating with what you see.

The emphasis of this technique is not on what you see, the multiplicity of the scenes but it emphasizes on the seer and its aim is to establish you into this witnessing. Seeing is multilayered from the gross to the subtle, but the seer is the same.
