A beautiful person is one, through whom the qualities of his consciousness are reflected through all the layers of his being. And such a person may or may not meet the beauty standards, but he has an attraction and looks beautiful.
Beauty of the physical form may or may not affect your within but beauty from within undoubtedly affects and reflects on all the layers of your body, your physical body, your mind and your surroundings which is also an extension of your physical form.
Beauty of the body in your youth is nature’s way of blooming that way but with age that undergoes change, and you grow old. But people get obsessed with their body and try to make that phase of youth permanent. The struggle for permanence is painful and futile.
You can make changes to your surroundings to make it beautiful. With the advancement in cosmetology, you can make changes in your physical form to qualify for beauty parameters. Then you can train and polish your thoughts and become an intellectual. Yet all these changes and beauty at these layers is transitory, you have to continue your efforts endlessly to maintain them and even then, they slip away any moment, you cannot hold them further because it is against nature. Change is inevitable.
Ageing is natural and you must accept it. Moreover, getting old does not mean getting ugly. But those who are obsessed with their body and attached to their beauty according to their definition of beauty, many a times go through great pain and suffering as they are not ready to accept the changes and flow with the current of nature. And this non-acceptance and suffering really makes their body lusterless and their countenance unattractive.
In fact, when a person gets connected to his consciousness within, he becomes more beautiful with age. He has an attraction, and he appears beautiful irrespective of his external appearance. People like to be with such a person. People associate old age with loneliness and negligence from society, but this does not happen with such ageing people. They are neither lonely nor neglected; on the contrary they are respected and loved, and people desire their company.
Howsoever beautiful you are, you must understand that all outward beauty is changing; you have to stop your identifications with the impermanent and look for the permanent within. Any identification with the body, or your thoughts and feelings is destined to undergo change, everything is in transition. So, you have to go for the beauty that is intrinsically yours. Not that you must bring this inner beauty from somewhere, you are born beautiful, it is the quality of your consciousness. It is just that this beauty gets neglected and hidden below the various levels of pseudo identifications. This pseudo-identity is not you and it needs to go.
Babies look beautiful as they are still connected to their consciousness and the various layers of conditionings and limitations have not yet accumulated on them. But as a child grows into an adult, his identifications and attachments create a pseudo-identity, and his intrinsic beauty is buried under it. Sadhna is to regain and restore this beauty by associating with your consciousness so that its qualities are reflected in your being.
To have a beautiful body is a blessing. There are people, who are illumined within, but their subtle and physical bodies may not have the sheen and the sparkle of luminosity. And of course, there are many cases where people are beautiful externally, but they lack beauty within. So, to have a beautiful body is a blessing and needs to be taken care of and used properly. Neglecting the body or torturing the body is insensitivity, then whether it is your own or someone else’s.
People who are obsessed with their body sometimes go to the extreme of condemning the body. To have a beautiful body is a gift of nature. It is a valuable gift to be treated with love and respect. In fact, not only when the body is beautiful, but otherwise also your body is precious and you have to treat it with care, love and respect. It is not your creation, it has been provided by nature and it shall go back to it, feel gratitude that you have it today and utilize it properly. Not only the body but whatever you have, whether it is your thought, or whether it is your feelings, or whether they are your circumstances and surroundings, none of these are yours; they have been given to you, handle them with love and care and use them properly.
Those who are beautiful externally get so much attention and things become easy for them, their normal struggle at times, gets reduced to such an extent that they begin to enjoy this privilege and they sometimes do not bother to develop the other beautiful skills. They get satisfied with external attention that then they miss out on their real beauty. However, it is most beautiful when a beautiful person becomes all round beautiful by connecting to his consciousness.
You can connect to your consciousness by creating a harmony between your body, mind and consciousness. When you are meditative, these three are in rhythm, and then you also come in rhythm with nature, and you become clear and transparent and through this transparency the qualities of your chetna find expression at all outer layers of your body-mind mechanism making you beautiful and attractive. And these qualities are experienced as peace, joy, bliss, compassion, friendliness and love.
Sometimes when great impact is needed, when something of voluminous magnitude must happen, then Sadgurus come where everything about them is beautiful, be it their surroundings, be it their physical form, be it their voice, be it their gestures, be it their thoughts and feelings, everything and then of course their consciousness, that is one with all. Such Sadgurus are a complete package of beauty.
I hope that you make your life beautiful at all layers so that when a person meets you, he is taken aback at your beauty and attraction. I dream of a society with such all round beautiful people.
